New Orleans Destination Wedding, Part II

(Continued from New Orleans Destination Wedding, Part I) Once we completed Meagan’s bridal session, we waved goodbye to her so she could freshen up for her ceremony…which was only an hour later! After our quick intermission, we met up with Meagan’s handsome groom, Matt, and the rest of the guests who were waiting at the Peristyle in City Park. Serenaded by a solitary violin, Meagan emerged from the stretch limo and made her way down the aisle toward the man of her dreams. Even though it threatened to rain, nothing could put a damper on the pure joy you could see between Matt & Meagan. Due to the intimate, laid-back nature of their day, we were able to spend time shooting some fantastic photos of the bride and groom after the ceremony! While Meagan is a classic beauty, do not mistake her for traditional! Rather than a big over-the-top wedding, M&M chose to fly to New Orleans with about 30 of their closest friends to wed in a city they loved, so we were able to get a great shot of the newlyweds and their special guests! The bride and groom later enjoyed a celebration in the French Quarter with their friends in lieu of a reception. We adored the intimacy of the entire day because we were able to focus completely on Meagan & Matt. We absolutely LOVED sharing this day with you guys, and are so honored you chose us!

New Orleans Destination Wedding, Part I

*In backtracking to catch up on blog posts, I’ll be pulling some of my favorites from my time under the radar until I can get caught up.*

This lovely wedding is the romantic and heartfelt nuptials of Nashville couple, Matt & Meagan who married in New Orleans in November 2009. Because she was in Tennessee and I was in Louisiana, we never met before her wedding day, but Meagan and I spoke frequently by phone in the time leading up to her wedding day. I was so excited to meet her and Matt, and when I rounded the corner on that Saturday afternoon to meet her in person, I was stunned at her beauty! This girl is gorgeous! We hit it off quickly and jumped straight into a 2-hour bridal session in the streets of New Orleans. To this day it still reigns as one of my very favorite bridal sessions!! Meagan is a classic beauty and was so easy to photograph. Amplifying MY enjoyment was the fact that she was so laid back, unconcerned about getting her dress a little dirty, but more focused on making some GORGEOUS photos. My Parents | My Blessing

One curse of being a photographer is that YOUR family and personal memories often are even less documented than those who are photography averse! We photographers spend so much time photographing others that we often fail to take time out for ourselves in this respect. My parents are one such example. As many years as I have been a photographer, I do not think I have ever had the opportunity to even sneak a few photos of my parents. This is not because they are not interested or photogenic, but rather our time together always seems to be short and rushed.

During my last visit to my parents over the New Years holiday, we had the chance to break that awful track record, and in a matter of 10 minutes, we captured some of the most precious, sentimental photos that I will cherish for a lifetime. I even got choked up while shooting, knowing how treasured these would be down the road. For a moment, I felt what it was to be both photographer and client. It was a special moment where I felt a renewed passion for what I do… for both myself and others. Here’s a glimpse at the love that my parents still have for each other, nearly 30 years after they wed.

WAY Overdue

Life has been one very hectic, crazy party! And while there is no excuse for being this delinquent in updating the blog, there are some valid points as to why we have been so busy that it got moved to the backburner. However, we have finally hit a consistent level of busy so that I can better allocate time. AND, we just got home from an overdue, much needed and well deserved vacation to Durango, Colorado. I feel refreshed, rejuvenated, ready and determined to get back on track!

Here are some exciting things that have happened since my last post:

  • We moved into our first home! After purchasing a remodel in January of 2009, we finally got moved into our new place in Baton Rouge last May. It feels so good to have room to spread out, and we are enjoying making it our own!
  • Colten has become increasingly involved in the business and now considers himself MY boss!:)If you email us, you may even hear back from him. He is a really fantastic photographer with a knack for finding the most unique shots, and he specializes in helping grooms and their men have a great time. Colten also spends much of his energy on customer service and details, which allows me more flexibility to stay focused on the creative aspect. I feel we make a great team, and I am blessed God gave him to me!
  • Colten got accepted into the Louisiana State University’s School of Dentistry!!! We are so thrilled and proud of him! This means we will consider ourselves both Baton Rouge and New Orleans residents from the next few years. Exciting!!

Thanks again for your patience with us! Here’s to the new year and keeping the blog FRESH!:)

Bryan & Darrah

What a good looking couple!! I had the great honor of shooting Bryan and Darrah’s engagement photos in March at Rosedown Plantation in St. Francisville. Darrah is a gorgeous Mississippi girl with a heart of gold and a striking resemblance to Pocahontas, and Bryan absolutely adores her. They are such a sweet and couple and I know they’re going to have a beautiful life together and gorgeous kids!!! I’m itching to shoot Darrah’s bridals in May and their wedding in June. I’m looking forward to your big day!!

I’m including the next two nearly identical shots with the focus shifted since I know my mom would love these.:)
